The July 19 release date for a live action version of Disney classic The Lion King is just around the corner. With an unbelievably star-studded cast that includes Beyoncé, Donald Glover, John Oliver, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and many more, fans are already freaking out.

To add excitement to the already ground-breaking release, an accompanying album curated by Beyoncé herself was also recently announced.

The album, The Lion King: The Gift, is separate from the film’s soundtrack, although closely related. “Spirit” is featured on both, and no one will be surprised when we say Beyoncé absolutely killed it. In a press release, Beyoncé explained that The Lion King: The Gift will highlight current artists and African producers.

"Each song was written to reflect the film's storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation," she said. "It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers."

The authenticity of the album was key to her. Beyoncé stars as Nala in the film and she sings the brand new song “Spirit.” Listen to the thundering ballad in the video above.
