Rare 'Jeopardy!' Ending Has Fans Shocked

In the riveting world of ‘Jeopardy!,’ fans just never know when the show will go from a low-drama, trivia game to a deeply competitive race to the finish line. Wednesday’s episode of ‘Jeopardy!’ showed the latter with a rare tiebreaking last moment.

The game was between fellow high school seniors Jackson Jones and Avi Gupta. They found themselves at the end of the final round each with a total of $39,200, forcing them to go into a rare tiebreaking round.

The tiebreaker was so shocking that even show host Alex Trebek had some words of disbelief. “To be honest, ladies and gentlemen, I can’t recall the last time we had to go to a tiebreaker.”

The show’s website confirms that tiebreakers have only happened once before in game history – back in 2018.

The way the tiebreaker works is pretty simple. Trebek goes on to explain to the contestants, “I will give you the category. I will reveal the clue. The first one to ring in with a correct response will be a finalist.”

The game-winning clue? With a category of American History, Trebek reveals the clue. “Types of it you could find in the Boston Harbor on December 16, 1773, included souchong and bohea.”

Gupta chimed in first with the correct answer. “What is tea?,” he declared. Gupta will now move on to play in the finals.
